With hundreds of recruiters and thousands of job seekers on the Layoff Network since we launched 3 weeks ago, we’ve been taking in all the feedback and trying to keep up as best we can.
One of the problems that our community discovered is that normal job boards during this time are not that helpful. The job listings are out of date, already filled, or the recruiter who was working on filling that position has been laid off. Sometimes the companies posting the jobs have hiring freezes but you have to cross reference their jobs with an ever-increasing cornucopia of lists from various marketing teams that don’t actually help you get the job.
The people who have lost their jobs during this pandemic do not want to, nor do they have the time to write long cover letters, re-do their resumes for the first time in years, or go through a humiliating grinder in order to get another job. They are talented, smart, and ready to rock.
We’re taking a slightly different approach with the Layoff Network community.
We’ve always believed that the best way to get a job is to connect with the right people. We’re not building another job board. We’re building a community.
The new Who’s Hiring tab helps job seekers find the right people to talk to, not send them to another application form.
Recruiters can now add a few lines about what they’re looking for on their profile. Based on this information, everyone else in the network can see who’s hiring with live updates as new jobs are posted. Job seekers will be able to sort jobs by company to see a full list of positions available and find exactly the right person at that company to speak with about a particular position.
There is no application form. You just say you’re interested, and the person you’re looking at is notified. Recruiters with posted jobs will also have the option to allow job seekers to contact them directly about open positions.
Recruiters that are the most responsive to job seekers will appear at the top of the Who’s Hiring tab. Recruiters that become less responsive will go to the bottom.
The Layoff Network community will show you exactly who’s still hiring. Not just the companies, but the people. And they’ll know what the top priority positions are too.
